Description:
The Hoatzin, known as the Canje Pheasant in Guyana, is a strange bird that lives in swampy areas along the rivers. The Hoatzin use a ruminant-like digestive system involving bacterial fermentation in the front part of their gut. This is unique among birds, and makes them stink like manure. Because of this, they are not hunted for food unless the hunters are really really hungry.
