Frederick Wilhelm of Brandenburg facing right. Mintmasters mark below bust. Frederick Wilhelm had studied in the Netherlands and he learned a great deal of trade, economics, and technology. Shortly before his death he founded the Brandenburg-African Company, and established colonial operations in Guinea, setting the groundwork for later imperial German exploits in Africa.
Translation: Friedrich Wilhelm, by the grace of God margrave of Brandenburg, arch-chamberlain and prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire.
